GCC Secretary General Receives Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Yemen

Riyadh, Feb. 06, 2023, SPA-- Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi, has received today the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Yemen Hans Grundberg at the headquarters of the GCC General Secretariat in Riyadh.
During the meeting, the GCC Secretary General affirmed the GCC's determination to exert all possible efforts to enhance security and stability in Yemen. He also stressed the firm positions and decisions of the GCC countries regarding support for legitimacy in Yemen represented by the Presidential Leadership Council of the Republic of Yemen and the legitimate government to end the Yemeni crisis through a political solution. This solution is based on the three references represented by the GCC initiative and its executive mechanism, the outcomes of the Comprehensive National Dialogue Conference, and Security Council Resolution 2216, together with the efforts of the UN Special Envoy in Yemen to reach the desired political solution in accordance with the three references.
He underlined the importance of supporting the truce renewal sponsored by the UN and expanding its gains because of its positive impact on the lives of Yemenis in terms of humanitarian, economic and living standards.
He expressed the need to intensify the efforts of the international community to exert pressure on the Houthi group to seriously engage in the peace process to resolve the Yemeni crisis and comply with the international community appeals to negotiate a comprehensive ceasefire with the Yemeni government, in preparation for the resumption of the political process under the auspices of the UN to reach a sustainable and just peace based on the three references.
